As the red ribbon was cut – a group of small children from the neighborhood kindergarden instantly started to conquer the hills, climbing the parkour equipment, playing tag using the new asphalt pattern and sliding down the high hill dragging along each other. Based on their reaction we consider the project to be a success!

The project is a new landscape around Mariendalshallen at Frederiksberg. The Sports Hall used to hide behind a tall hedge and the area around the building couldn’t really be used for anything.

With this project we have changed the identity of Mariendalshallen – the introvert Sports hall is now a part of the streetscape with new possibilities to hang-out after practice, use the fitness equipment and play around. The project is not only for the users of the sport hall but for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.

A lighting tree on the façade will light up the area in the evening giving a hint of all the activities going on inside the building.

With the children from the neighborhood kindergarten as test subjects we went from area to area trying out and approving the new landscape.

Finishing with an ice cream on the new number one hang-out spot at the Sport hall entrance.
