As part of one of our courtyards renewals, last August, we started the renovation of the Nattergalevej Courtyard in Copenhagen.

The project is one of three pioneer projects in Copenhagen Municipality, where rainwater is handled in the courtyard instead of leading it to the sewer system.

Nattergalevej Courtyard is characteristic for its long and narrow dimension with beautiful old birch and ash trees. We have decided to preserve the healthy trees and designed a new system of ditches and small ponds surrounding them. Also, we will plant many new trees. The new planting scheme will add a whole new layer of diverse urban nature to the courtyard. That, together with the rainwater, will be a resource that brings seasonal changes to the Nattergalevej.

Besides, we will remodel the existing flat lawn to receive the rain from the roof and paved areas. It will also create new small-scaled hills that will frame the new stay pockets and inspire playful games. 

In addition, the new system of ditches and small pounds will lead the water to a new concrete channel that meanders through the courtyard as a playful element. The result will be a much more varied and valuable courtyard with multiple options for play, gathering, and relaxation.

For the past few years, we have been working on renovating housing courtyards such as Bernhard Bangs Allé, Beethovensvej, and Classensgade, where we take advantage of the renewal to develop rainwater management in the yards.
