MASU has been working on a conceptual plan for the future of the Suvilahti event square. Suvilahti is a former energy production area, and some of the former industrial buildings and gasometers from the 1900s remain today. Continuous urban developments have transformed Suvilahti surroundings, while the site itself became a hub for cultural activities and events, ranging from local to the international dimension.
The project explores how the Suvilahti event area can be the basis for a future attractive cultural and event quarter, including the new event block, the Suvilahti Cultural Center and the Hanasaari power plant area.
The idea plan builds on the existing identities of the site to create areas of various characters and outdoor qualities. Furthermore, the design unfolds ideas for improving its relationship with the immediate context, including the Hanasaari power plant area.
In addition, by integrating new activities, such as sport and play in the area, Suvilahti will thrive as a cultural and event quarter, becoming a unique and vibrant location for residents and international visitors.
The design of the event area, which is about 10ha, establishes principles to ensure a high degree of flexibility. And therefore the possibility for a variety of activities and events to take place over time in Suvilahti.
