30 Nov 2021 EVENES SCHOOLYARD IS FINISHED
In collaboration with MDH Architects from Oslo, we have finished the Evenes schoolyard. The project is in the village of Evenes, in the beautiful Liland, Norway.
The proposal takes a sensitive approach to its surroundings and brings the best advantage of the climate. Furthermore, following the topography on-site and re-using the existing buildings, the project’s form and building volumes define different outdoor spaces that connect to the indoors, creating a flexible movement from inside to outside.
With its angled shape, the new school shelters the inner courtyard from the wind during winter and helps form an agreeable micro-climate to the South-facing yard between the school and the multi-use hall. It also creates a sunny and sheltered schoolyard facing South, with different zones for play, activities, stay, events and festivities.
In addition, the schoolyard’s heart, “Festplassen”, a landscaped stair and partly covered amphitheatre, function as a meeting place when the weather allows it.
