Kengo Kuma & Associates, Gansam Architects & Partners and MASU Planning’s proposal for the Music Performance Hall as well as The City Art Museum has been selected for the second phase of the competition for The Daejeon Arts Park in South Korea. We are the only team that is shortlisted for the next phases for both buildings.

To boost its cultural infrastructure, Daejeon Metropolitan City, a renowned hub for science, technology, and administration in Korea, initiated the International Design Competition for the arts park. Therefore, this competition is a significant step towards enhancing the city’s cultural offerings.

The signature Korean nature inspires the design of the landscape surrounding the two cultural buildings.

The Daejeon Arts Park is designed with six main overlapping layers reflecting the historical geological times of the area. These layers are combined to create a unique park design with meandering rivers and lush green spaces.

Moreover, the park’s genuine strength lies in its adaptation to the climate changes.

Through innovative design strategies, the park functions as a Sponge Park, filtering water and supporting local ecology, while the Breath Park concept creates cooler microclimates amidst the urban heat and also offers clean air.
