Last week MASU partner Malin Blomqvist and landscape architect Margrethe Holmberg had the opportunity to talk about the Hans Christian Andersen museum gardens. They shared the ideas and process of creating the garden with gardeners and plant sponsors at the Odense Blomsterfestival.

They told the story of the museum gardens from the competition in 2015. Explaining how the concept of the project should show the duality in H. C. Andersen’s Fairytales and life.

For example, how the hedges form the portal into the museum gardens from the surrounding city space. Moreover, how they became the leading structure, leading the flow in the gardens and framing the smaller theme gardens.

Furthermore, they discussed the ongoing coordination process with the architect and engineers to make this symbiosis between building and garden. In the end, they shared their research to find the right atmosphere, detailed solutions and vegetation for all gardens.
