07 Jul 2021 KEILIANIEMI SQUARE
Last December we finished Keilaniemi square in Espoo, and we came back during summer. It has been delightful to see how the vegetation has grown and how people are using the space.
Keilaniemi is historically known as an international business hub in Espoo. Its skyline, including the historic Fortum Tower, is visible from the Helsinki side of the Keilalahti bay.
The area is facing a significant transformation, and Keilaniemi square will form the neighborhood heart. Also, our design reflects the future mixed-use neighborhood.
In addition, it is an atmospheric and active urban space that kick-start the development and sets a high standard for the urban areas of Keilaniemi.
The square greets you when you reach the neighborhood by public transport, foot, or bike. Its closeness to the sea, with stunning views of the bay and the archipelago, inspired our planting scheme and pavement.
Keilaniemi square should be an active area, with room for stay, play activities, and spontaneous encounters with neighbors or colleagues.
While the edges of the square create pockets for conversations and stay, the center, with its eye-catching wooden hill, is both a place to stay and a place for movement.
