We recently completed a study assignment for the new Limmattaler Energiezentrum (LEZ) in Dietikon, Switzerland, in collaboration with Jan Kinsbergen, Kivinen Rusanen Architects, and structural engineer Dr. Neven Kostic.

Commissioned by Limeco as a “generational project,” the study envisions an innovative energy hub combining a state-of-the-art waste incineration plant with an expanded wastewater treatment facility.

Our landscape architectural vision focuses on restoring the Reppisch-Limmat river landscape, addressing the deep scars left by centuries of human impact in the Limmat Valley. The design harmoniously integrates the energy and wastewater systems into the surrounding environment while transforming the historically altered landscape into a thriving, ecologically balanced habitat.

Key features include a green roof park atop the wastewater treatment plant, restored Reppisch riverbanks, a bird and nature reserve to support local and migratory species, diverse habitats, such as alluvial forest vegetation and open meadows promote biodiversity and ecological resilience, and a circular path with viewpoints invites visitors to engage with and learn about the local ecosystem.

You can’t win them all, but we are incredibly proud of our contribution to this complex project and look forward to following its progress.
